Joe was a Sgt in the 8th Army and was a tank commander during the European Campaign. Right after the war, the house he was living in burned to the ground taking all of his uniforms, medals, ribbons and a captured German Luger. Joe said that he was promoted to tank commander when the current commander wanted to swap jobs with him. Shortly after the swap, the former commander was killed in action.
