William was a Sergeant in the 73rd Bombardment Wing of the U.S. Army Aircorps and was stationed on Saipan in the Pacific. Saipan was the headquarters for all B-29s in the Pacific and they made the longest over-water flights of the war. William received the Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Medal, WW-II Victory Medal, The Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with three service stars.
