Joe Pat James

Joe Pat served in the U.S. Army from October, 1945 until February, 1947. He was a T-4 Sergeant who ran a communications and message center. He was with the 63rd Signal Battalion and spent most of his time in Vienna, Austria. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory over Japan Medal. As the Message center chief he supervised 15 men who worked 24/7 dispatching and receiving messages from and to military bases all over the world. Joe Pat says that he still remembers most of the base codes that were used in those days.
