Keys was a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air corps and was stationed in Hawaii and on Guam. He got married on the 4th of July when he decided to pop the question and find the preacher because he had three days off. He worked in the office and got the mail everyday. One time on Guam, he discovered enemies hiding in the outdoor toilets. Keys was awarded the Good Conduct medal as well as other decorations.
