Charles' ship sailed into Guam during the war and he got his mail. In the mail was a letter from his brother Roy telling him that he had been stationed there. Charles went ashore and went to the camp where Roy was stationed. He asked that his brother be paged, which they did a number of times with no response. Finally a runner was sent to fetch Roy. When Roy came in to headquarters he saluted the officer that he saw standing there without realizing that it was his brother. Later, when asked why he didn't respond to the page, Roy said, "Oh, I heard it, but every other time I had been paged, I had been put on a work detail and thought that was what they wanted me for."
